Opel Automobile GmbH is a German motor vehicle manufacturer and has been part of the Netherlands-based multinational automotive group Stellantis since January 2021. In addition to the main plant at the German headquarters in Rüsselsheim am Main, Opel in Germany also has factories in Kaiserslautern and Eisenach with around 14,000 employees (as of 2019 ). The Bochum plant was closed at the end of 2014. Some models are bought in from group companies or subsidiaries outside Europe, for example in the USA or South Korea, or from contract manufacturers (SOVAB, Magyar Suzuki and Tofaş) (so-called badge engineering). The Opel headquarters in Rüsselsheim is also the headquarters of the German PSA Organization that moved there from Cologne in 2019. In March 2021 it was announced that FCA Germany will also move from Frankfurt / Main to Rüsselsheim to the Opel headquarters.
