About us :
One of the oldest Demeter farms in the world is located in the beautiful Ugental on the edge of the Swabian Alb. The farm has been run organically and dynamically since 1929. The fodder for the 26 dairy cows and their offspring is grown on an agriculturally used area of approx. 60 hectares. The meadows and pastures rich in clover and herbs provide the best green fodder in summer. From the excess grass we extract fragrant hay for winter feeding. Forage grain, peas, clover and alfalfa are grown on the farmland, and we have horn-bearing cows that are grazed in summer and hay-fed in winter. Our 26 dairy cows and their offspring live in a spacious open stable with plenty of space and fresh air, softly bedded on straw. From spring to autumn they are allowed to go outside every day. Our cows have their horns. These are important sensory and communication organs of the animals and have an influence on the balance of strength and digestive performance. Mother and nurse-related calf rearing means: the calves stay with their mother in the calving box for 7 days after birth. After a week, the calves move together with other young animals. They stay in this group box with an area that is integrated in the cowshed until they are three months old. The calves therefore have visual and trial contact with their mothers at all times. In the morning and in the evening before milking, the suckler cows are allowed to visit their calves for about an hour, where they are greeted happily and patiently let their calves suckle their udders.
