  • About us :

The nucleus of Hochland was the Allgäu Emmentaler wholesaler Bonifaz Kohler KG, founded in Goßholz in 1880. In 1927 Georg Summer founded the Hochland cheese factory in Goßholz near Lindenberg together with his brother-in-law Robert Reich. The first product was a 2 kg block of Emmentaler processed cheese. In 1931 the company headquarters were relocated to Heimenkirch. The first big growth spurt began with the advent of supermarkets after the Second World War. The self-service principle required new assortments and packaging that were appropriate for the trade. Hochland was one of the first companies to meet this requirement. The growth of Hochland was strongly influenced by the growth of the discounters. Hochland, Reich, Summer & Co. KG has since developed into Germany's largest private cheese manufacturer and processor. In order not to become too dependent on individual discounters, foreign markets were increasingly opened up in the sixties. Hochland has been the official partner and cheese supplier of McDonald's Germany since 1973. The Swiss cheese manufacturer Fromalp, which was taken over in 2006, was sold to Emmi in 2010. In January 2017, Hochland acquired the US cream cheese producer Franklin Foods Inc. In 2016, it was the third largest cream cheese manufacturer in the USA with sales of around USD 140 million.
