About us :
Once there was the community Selgenhof belonging to Ulrichstein in the Wiesengrund am Gilgbach on the “Frankfurter Straße”, later called “Alter Selgenhof”. There were four inherited estates here, each with 100 acres of land. Opposite the farms, 2 mills did their work. 12 other mills used the steep gradient of the Gilgbach over a distance of approx. Three kilometers. The properties of the former municipality of Selgenhof were sold to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and demolished between 1845 and 1897. The other mills also gradually disappeared. Only the Kimpelsmühle still exists today. The Selgenhof was built at its current location. It served as a remont operation for the Hessian cavalry. 300 horses were housed here at that time. At the same time, it was supposed to take on the function of a model property for the Hohe Vogelsberg. But as early as 1866, with the loss of Hessian military sovereignty, the operation as a Remont depot was ceased and the domain was leased. In 1872 a Royal Prussian Remont depot was set up again Years existed. In 1882 it was closed for financial reasons. In the following years the property was leased to various tenants until it was taken over as a test property by the Hessian Chamber of Agriculture in 1922. As such it was run until 1970 and was particularly important in the training of milkers. Since 1973, the Selgenhof has been leased to private tenants as the Hessian state domain. We, Sybille and Thilo Junge, take care of the farm with our family, 18 employees and two trainees, the animals and our own dairy, in which we exclusively process the milk from our cows into high-quality dairy products in a traditional artisanal way.
