  • About us :

Albert Barufe founded the company in 1927. He came from Silesia and went to West Germany in the 1920s to emigrate to America. The Kraft Cheese Company, headquartered in Chicago, was advertising in German newspapers at that time and was looking for people for the subsidiary Kraft Cheese GmbH in Lindenberg / Allgäu. New employees should work to set up a sales network in Germany. Sales should be built on a commercial agent basis. Mr. Barufe applied and he was entrusted with the area of the greater Düsseldorf area with parts of the Bergisches Land and left Lower Rhine. Conscientious action, courteous demeanor and reliability resulted in a rapid positive development of the agency, and after a short time he expanded his range. He took over sales for Gouda and Edam for a large Dutch dairy. He bought and sold these on his own account. On this basis, other companies joined, but he continued to work as a sales representative. Next came Danish and Swiss companies. He always made sales with foreign suppliers for his own account. The company's first headquarters were in Düsseldorf Bilk on the premises of the freight yard. The warehouse had a siding, and foreign cheese was delivered by rail in refrigerated wagons. The cheese came from Denmark, Holland, Switzerland and France. Albert Barufe then delivered the goods in refrigerated vehicles. During this time the number of employees was 25-30. During this development phase, the Barufe company built up a well-functioning field service, which later proved to be right and worthwhile and continued to bring the company a strong expansion. The company grew into a successful cheese retailer in Germany. You dealt with almost all German companies in the food industry. It was important to react quickly and flexibly to changes in trade, which led to the need to build a modern cold store in Hilden from 1974 to 1975. Shortly afterwards, 4 further branches were established in Dortmund, Hanover, Leipzig and Güstrow. As a result of concentration and changes in ownership in trade towards large companies, new demands were made on companies. While traditionally all goods were delivered by the company's own vehicle fleet, the move was made to deliver the goods nationwide with refrigerated freight forwarders. Demands of the large companies that were and are present at the federal level to get everything from a single source were met, i.e. that they were supplied from a central warehouse. As a result of this development, the focus was on a large warehouse in Hilden. In the course of the next few years the branches were closed again and the entire distribution from Hilden was managed. This also brought advantages: concentration on a central warehouse, price advantages and freight savings. Growing competition required cost savings and rationalization. Savings also had to be made in the personnel area. Hilden still has its own refrigerated vehicle fleet with which the goods are delivered within a radius of approx. 100 km. The goods are shipped nationwide via refrigerated freight forwarders. The highest goal is the quality of the goods, modern sales methods and absolute reliability towards the customer. The Barufe company offers services by responding to customer requests. If the customer wishes to have the loaf goods available in tradable packaging, the goods are cut into 1/8, 1/4 pieces in the packaging department. The goods are then labeled and delivered according to customer groups. The Barufe company has around 2,000 different types in its warehouse in Hilden and can procure a total of 4,000 tradable items. It trades in cheese from 20 European countries. Albert Barufe died in 1975 and his son Horst-Werner Barufe took over the successor. The third generation has been working in this company since 2002.
