  • About us :

On February 22nd, 1839 the farm was bought by our ancestor Gerhard Jan Hendrik Heesen from Suderwick and his wife Johanna Ormel from Dinxperlo in the course of a public auction. At that time our farm belonged to the state of Prussia, which had taken over the Kreuzherrenkloster Marienfrede from nearby Dingden in 1803. In the 15th century the monastery was founded, managed and administered by Augustinian monks. In its heyday, the monastery owned over 1000 hectares. Our farm was probably managed by the monks themselves for a long time, which explains the name of the farm. After the decline of the monastery, the entire property was taken over by the state of Prussia. The monastery was closed by order of Napoleon. The land was publicly auctioned by Grand Duke von Berg (Napoleon's brother-in-law) and the monastery was demolished. In 1839 the tenant's apartment and stables for 2 horses, 6 cattle and 3 pigs belonged to the farm. The family lived on it and still had to pay taxes in the form of contributions in kind.
