  • About us :

On September 16, 1852, Heinrich Ludwig Neumann and his son Louis opened the Felix & Sarotti confectioner in Berlin's Friedrichstrasse. Luxurious oriental decoration underlines the opulence of the delicacies on offer. Hugo Hoffmann, also a confectioner in Berlin, takes over "Felix & Sarotti" in 1872 and from now on also sells his products under the name "SAROTTI". The shop is relocated to Mohrenstrasse. Their name probably inspired the later choice of the Mohren in the trademark. Initially, a bear with a tree trunk and bees adorned the chocolate boxes from SAROTTI. For the company's 50th anniversary on August 27, 1918, the new trademark is registered: three Moors with a tray. For many years these have adorned the "Three Moors Mixture", a selection of fine pralines. The former merchandise store has now become the "Sarotti Chocoladen- und Cacao.Aktiengesellschaft". Due to the lack of space in the steadily growing AG, production was relocated to Tempelhof in 1913. At that time, around 2,000 people were employed there. In January 1922, a three-day fire destroyed the Tempelhof plant and an extension that had already started. Production can only be fully resumed in December 1923, when several branches and holdings are acquired and sold again during the inflation. The SAROTTI range is expanding and the company enjoys a respected reputation as a manufacturer of the finest chocolate products, the finest pralines, the finest cocoa, the finest marzipan products, the finest fondants and the finest liqueurs. The Swiss corporation for Nestlé products acquires the majority of shares in SAROTTI AG. In return, SAROTTI takes over the Nestlé factory in Hattersheim and receives licenses to manufacture various Swiss chocolate brands. With the first delivery of raw cocoa to SAROTTI AG, production resumes after the Second World War. Like many German companies, SAROTTI experienced an unprecedented economic upturn in the course of the reconstruction. In the 1960s, the SAROTTI Mohr moved from the middle of the packaging to the medallion. In spite of this, it is still one of the best-known German trademarks. At the same time, SAROTTI is experimenting more and more with new varieties, for example the "refreshment bars" with varieties such as "Mint" or "Eisnuss" gives the SAROTTI-Mohren more space on the packaging. In keeping with tradition, reference is also made to the founding date: the SAROTTI Mohr was brought back into the spotlight from the beginning of the 1990s under Nestlé. After the takeover of SAROTTI by Stollwerck GmbH in 1998, a series of nostalgic packaging appears that rekindles the love of SAROTTI Mohren among consumers. Stollwerck transforms the SAROTTI Mohren into the SAROTTI magician who transforms traditional products into a new and brings modern design onto the market. In the new millennium, the focus is on moving images. The SAROTTI magician revives the tradition of the cartoon moor as an announcer for children's series. In addition, TV and radio spots make the cradle of cocoa crave for chocolate.
