  • About us :

In 1909 a porcelain factory with four round ovens was put into operation in Könitz. The first products? Cups, coffee mugs, bowls, tea sets, etc. mainly went to England. As early as 1912, the company had to be expanded due to the strong demand and became known as the Koenitz Porzellanfabrik Gebrüder Metzel. In the decades that followed, a changed company concept enabled many markets, including international ones, to be won. At the end of the Second World War, the Könitzer porcelain factory was considered one of the best-run medium-sized companies. In 1948, the Soviet occupying power arranged for the factory to be taken over by the Soviet A. G. Keramische Werke Hermsdorf for the production of exclusively technical porcelain. When the reparation payments were discontinued, the company became public property in 1951, but remained part of the Hermsdorfer Werke. In 1954, the factory was able to resume production of household porcelain under its own management. In 1962, the Koenitz Porcelain Factory and Kahla merged to form the United Porcelain Factory Koenitz - Kahla. During this time there was a joint floor brand called "Vereinigte Porzellanwerke Könitz-Kahla". At the beginning of the 70s of the 20th century, the name Könitz disappeared from the floor brand for almost 20 years as other porcelain factories, among others. Volkstedt, Uhlstädt, Garsitz near Königsee and Langenberg in Gera merged to form the Kahla combine. Investments between 1984 and 1985 contributed to the creation of the most modern cup cycle line in Europe in Könitz. This went into operation in December 1985. In addition to Kahla Porzellan, Könitz was one of the few porcelain factories that continued to exist after the fall of the Wall. The existing range of cups was expanded to include new shapes and designs. On December 21, 1993, Turpin Rosenthal, in the 6th generation of the porcelain industry, bought Könitz porcelain from the trust. The cup specialist was created through the development of our own collections, custom-made products for advertising customers and the ability to implement every customer request. In 2000, Koenitz took a stake in the "Wiedemannsche Druckerei", and in 2001 the Thai subsidiary "Konitz Asia" was founded. Konitz Asia is now serving the entire Asian, American and Canadian region with a rapidly growing market share with great success. In 2006, Könitz took over "Waechtersbacher Keramik GmbH" and "Weimar Porcelain". Along with extensive investment and renovation measures, such as the purchase of the new decorative kiln in 2008, Koenitz steadily expanded its position on the international market. 2009 Koenitz celebrated its 100th anniversary. In the course of this, the factory outlet was restructured and renovated and reopened at the beginning of September 2009. In addition to the Könitz brand range with over 700 different designs on porcelain mugs and cups, you can get the colorful ceramic products for the table or as a gift idea from Waechtersbach. The noble and classic crockery from Weimar Porcelain as well as their porcelain figures and lithophany lights complete the extensive range. Koenitz can look back on more than 100 years of expertise in porcelain production and has steadily expanded its market. Today Könitz products can be found all over the world from Europe to America, Canada to Asia and Australia.
