The GRIMME Group from Damme in Lower Saxony was founded in 1861 as a forge by the great-grandfather of the current owner, Franz Grimme. Franz Grimme's father developed the first series products for a more efficient potato harvest in 1936 and founded the agricultural machinery factory of the same name. In 1966, GRIMME became the market leader with the single-row trailed potato harvester of the Europa Standard series. Franz Grimme joined the company in 1970 and became managing director in 1980. Today, GRIMME produces state-of-the-art potato, beet and vegetable technology at its headquarters in Damme and neighboring Rieste as well as in China. In India, in cooperation with the agricultural machinery manufacturer Shaktiman, potato technology is developed, produced and sold under the “Shaktiman-GRIMME Root Crop Solutions” brand. In Great Britain, Ireland, France, Belgium, Russia, the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, Denmark and Germany (Uelzen) sales and service companies support the GRIMME sales partner and user on site. In 2003 the American potato technology manufacturer SPUDNIK was founded in 1956 and is based in Blackfoot / Idaho and has grown to become the market leader in North America. With three further branches in the USA, SPUDNIK looks after sales partners and users on site. In 2020 SPUDNIK took over the manufacturer of special trailers STC Trailers, which are also based in Blackfoot. ASA-LIFT, founded in 1936 from Sorö, Denmark, has been part of the GRIMME Group since 2013. ASA-LIFT develops and produces vegetable technology on customer request and is one of the world's leading suppliers in this segment. 1987 Franz Grimme founded the plastics technology specialist INTERNORM in Damme and in 1995 RICON, the manufacturer of sieve and conveyor technology, which is now based in Rieste. Christoph Grimme founded 2017 the start-up Schmiede.ONE in Düsseldorf, which specializes in internet and software topics. The GRIMME Group employs over 2,700 people worldwide, 1,800 of them in Damme and Rieste. In Damme, over 130 young people are trained in 18 apprenticeships and dual study programs and ensure the high demand for specialized specialists in the GRIMME Group.
