The company's founder was Johann Breitsamer. He had a small milk shop in the Haidhausen district of Munich and began selling honey from his brother-in-law's beekeeping there in 1935. After the end of the Second World War, Breitsamer focused the business on the product honey, expanded the beekeeping to over 200 beehives, and later he also increasingly bought honey from other beekeepers. In 1951 he set up a new bottling plant in the Ramersdorf district. In 1964 his son Hans Breitsamer took over the management, in 1969 he merged the company with the honey house Georg Ulrich OHG in Fürth (Middle Franconia) to form Breitsamer + Ulrich GmbH & Co. KG. The honey bottling was then relocated to Fürth, and in 1981 a new bottling plant with a laboratory was added in Markt Erlbach. In 1985 Breitsamer + Ulrich GmbH & Co. KG was the third largest honey bottler in Europe. Since the political change in the GDR, Breitsamer has been cooperating with the former VEB Bienenwirtschaft Meißen, the largest honey bottling company in the GDR, today's Bienenwirtschaft Meißen GmbH, Meißen in Saxony. Hans Breitsamer's sons joined the company in 1995. The older son Robert took over the controlling and increasingly the sales, the younger son Christian Breitsamer became the purchasing manager. Thomas Ulrich (grandson of Georg Ulrich) is the managing director and heads the bottling plant in Markt Erlbach. Burkhard Bartsch is also part of the company's management.
