    In the summer of 1899, the pharmacist Dr. Carl Soldan (1871–1931) opened a "medicinal drug store" and perfumery on Hefnersplatz in Nuremberg. A wholesaler for bandages and drugstore supplies was later incorporated. In 1923, Dr. Carl Soldan's Em-eukal candy recipe with eucalyptus and menthol. In 1928 he founded a limited liability company under the name of Dr. C. Soldan and in 1929 acquired a gingerbread and confectionery factory on Herderstrasse in the Doos district. After renovating the factory building, he also relocated the production of Em-eukal sweets there. 1941 - now under the direction of Hermann Soldan - took over the Dr. C. Soldan GmbH founded Hercules-Werke AG in Nuremberg, which was converted into a GmbH the following year and sold to Fichtel & Sachs AG in 1963. In the 1940s, the company also acquired the Frankdruck printing company, which initially produced candy bags and later orders for AEG , Grundig and Quelle accepted. In the 1980s, printing was the most profitable part of the company. Dr. C. Soldan also operated up to nine perfumery branches in Nuremberg, Lauf and Neumarkt. In 1960 production was relocated to Adelsdorf for reasons of space, where sweets, medicines and other confectionery (fruit juice bears, gummy drops, etc.) are sold on an area of ​​around 10,000 square meters. ) is produced and packaged on six production lines. Since 1962, Dr. C. Soldan obtained the pharmaceutical manufacturing license in accordance with the Medicines Act, which is now valid throughout the EU. The Kinder Em-eukal brand was developed in 1972.Since 1989, the company has also been offering sugar-free candies based on the sugar substitute isomalt. The sweetener sucralose has also been used since 2004. According to its own information, the company has the IFS “Higher Level” certificate and the European GMP certificate. The family business has been certified for the processing of medical products since September 2020. Felix Soldan, who ran the company in the third generation, died in 2005. He was succeeded by his son Perry Soldan. Due to growing competition from drugstore chains, the perfumeries were closed in 2005. The print shop was also given up in 2007. From 2005 to 2009 the company halved its number of employees to 190 employees. Due to falling sales figures, from the beginning of 2008 the company concentrated its marketing on "Em-eukal". The brands "Em-herbal" and "Em-fital" were discontinued. In an extensive brand relaunch, lettering and bag designs were adapted to the new “one-brand strategy”, only “Kinder Em-eukal” was not affected. In addition to the pharmacies, marketing was now also directed towards the food retail trade as well as the convenience and mass market. Within a year, sales in pharmacies rose by eleven percent; the market share increased by 4.9 percent in two years up to November 2009. In 2009 the company exported four percent of its production. 2014 the company moved into a newly built administration building in Adelsdorf. C. SOLDAN supports two regional projects: In November 2016, Caritas Erlangen opened with a donation from Dr. C. SOLDAN the KontaktCafé Adelsdorf, a place for new encounters. The company has given Caritas long-term support - as has the violence prevention project "Drum Power - Music for Better Coexistence" by the Erlangen Civic Foundation's special fund for children. At the same time, Dr. C. SOLDAN also supraregional: Since 2017, the family business Pharmacists Without Borders has been supporting the Bremen Lung Foundation "Breathe Life" since 2020.
