  • About us :

The founder Martin Bauer was the son of a small farmer family from Vestenbergsgreuth. He supports his family by carving wooden shoes. His passion, however, was for medicinal herbs, their diversity and effects. In the early 1920s, he grew marigolds on his property, which he sold to druggists. Other medicinal plants were added later with peppermint, marshmallow root and chamomile. In 1930, at the age of 28, he founded his company and thus laid the foundation for the group of companies that is active around the world today. The herb processing plant bore the name of its founder Martin Bauer from the start. The demand for herbs became so great that they no longer just had to be grown in-house, but had to be bought in. In 1950 Hans Wedel, Martin Bauer's son-in-law, joined the company. He drove the expansion of the company and gained many new customers and cultivation partners for medicinal herbs while traveling, especially to Eastern Europe. In addition to herbs, fruits for fruit teas such as rose hips, hibiscus and apples were also important goods. In the 1960s, the company grew rapidly thanks to a special fine-cut method for tea in the infusion bag. Around 1980, the Martin Bauer Group pushed ahead with the expansion of the extraction business - for applications in the food and phytopharmaceutical industries. Expansion into Eastern Europe (from 1994) and North America (1996) followed in the 1990s. From 2010 the group of companies expanded in Asia and three years later in Latin America.
