Osram Licht AG is a globally active German company based in Munich. Osram positions itself as a high-tech photonics company that focuses increasingly on the areas of sensor technology, visualization and treatment using light. Photonics is at the core of most Osram applications. Osram's conventional lighting business was spun off in 2016 under the name Ledvance and sold to a Chinese consortium. Osram was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens AG from 1978 to 2013 and was spun off in 2013. The company's share was included in the MDAX of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on September 23, 2013, but had to leave it on March 22, 2021 and was then listed on the SDAX until June 30, 2021. Osram's operating company is Osram GmbH. In 2020, the majority of Osram was taken over by the Austrian company ams AG. On March 3, 2021, ams AG announced that the domination and profit transfer agreement ("BGAV") between ams Offer GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of ams AG, the parent company of the ams Group, and OSRAM Licht AG ("OSRAM") Effective on that date, Osram has more than 15,000 issued and pending patents.
