The Stanley Black & Decker Corporation is an American company with headquarters in New Britain in the US state Connecticut. The company Stanley Works (including the "Stanley knife") was formed in 1920 through a merger of Stanley's Bolt Manufactory (1843 by Frederick Stanley) and Stanley Rule and Level Company (founded in 1857 by cousin Henry Stanley). In 1910, S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker founded a small workshop in Baltimore that became The Black & Decker Manufacturing Company. November 2009 Stanley Works announced the takeover of Black & Decker for 4.5 billion dollars (around 3 billion euros at the time). The merger of the two companies was completed in March 2010. The resulting new company was named Stanley Black & Decker, Inc.
