Ultrasonic leakage measurement

There is a leak in a system with the propagation of sound waves. The sound frequency of a leak depends on the amount of leakage so that very low leaks produce high frequencies that are outside the human hearing range. In these cases, ultrasonic sensors can be used to detect leaks. Ultrasonic leak detectors are commonly used with a range of accessories including headphones, sensors, displays, nozzles and software. Depending on the test conditions of different levels of automation can be applied in this way.
For example, in production environments where there are high leakage points, fully automated systems are used. This method is not reliable for complex systems because ultrasonic waves in addition to multiple points of leakage from other sources also play a role in the measurement system. The sensitivity of ultrasonic devices is such that they can measure leaks above 10-2mbar.litre / sec. For this reason, this method is suitable for relatively large leaks and is not recommended for minor leaks in production environments.
