Powell Lenses, or powell prism, also known as Laser Line Generator Lenses, convert laser beams into uniform, straight lines. Comparing with cylindrical lenses, the laser line generator lenses has an advantage because latter one produces a poorly illuminated line, limited by the non-uniform Gaussian laser beam. Huge spherical aberration redistribute light along the line, decreasing the light in the central area while increasing the light intensity at the line's end. The outcome of a Powell lens is uniformly illuminated line used in all forms of machine vision applications.
