Physicochemical properties:

1. [appearance] sodium formate is white crystal or powder with a slight odor of formic acid.

2. [boiling point] (℃) 360

3. [melting point] (℃) ≥ 253

4. [density] g/cm3 1.92

5. [solubility] it is soluble in about 1.3 phr water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol and octanol, but insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline.

6. [stability] sodium formate decomposes into hydrogen and sodium oxalate when heated, and then generates sodium carbonate.

 

Usage

1. It is mainly used in the production of formic acid, oxalic acid and sodium hydrosulfite, and also used in the production of dimethylformamide. It is also used in medicine, printing and dyeing industry.

2. It is used as a reagent, disinfectant and mordant for the determination of phosphorus and arsenic

3. Used as preservative.

4. used in alkyd resin coating, plasticizer

5. It can be used as explosive, acid resistant material, aviation lubricating oil and adhesive additive.

6. Used in leather industry.
