Unit heater is a type of system for heating the environment, which in some applications, with changes in design and production, in addition to heating, it is also used as a cooling device. This device has a simple structure and consists of a number of coils (pipes with fins) and a fan that sends hot water or hot steam with a pump to the coil on cold days of the year and chilled water with a pump to the coil on hot days of the year. The air is blown by the fan through (around) the coil and its temperature increases or decreases. Chilled water is usually produced by a chiller and hot water by a boiler or package.
Their main use is for heating sports and industrial halls and sheds as well as industrial workshops. The reason why the application of this system is limited to such places is related to the following reasons.
1. The fan of the unit heater is very powerful and can throw the air several meters away, and for this reason, it is better to use it in places where the ceiling is high.
2. The more powerful the fan, naturally, the more noise it creates, and for this reason, its use is more common in places that are less sensitive to sound (such as factories, workshops, sports halls, etc.).
3. Usually, in large environments such as sheds and warehouses, the environment needs to reach the required temperature quickly, and the unit heater does this well. Unit heaters are installed inside the intended space and have no connection with the outside air, that's why unit heaters are not a suitable option if fresh air needs to circulate.
