Archocentrus nigrofasciatus

Introduction:

Imprisoned cichlid or zebra cichlid is one of the small cichlids of Central America and from the point of view of physical resistance against harsh conditions, it is one of the tough fish with a very aggressive temperament. Their life is about 10 years. The name of these fishes is adapted from the similarity of the dark stripes on their body with the zebra and also the clothes of the old prisoners. The body length of adult fish reaches 13 to 15 cm. The body of males is longer than that of females, but the color variation is more limited. The false albino (known as the pink captive) and white breeds belong to the captive cichlid.

Conditions for keeping in the aquarium:

Aquarium floor sand, rock, tree roots, and pieces of ebony wood will simulate the natural habitat of a captive cichlid.

The optimal temperature for keeping captive cichlids is 23 to 28 degrees Celsius. They like hard water (hardness 6-8) and tolerate pH between 6 and 8. It is better to consider an aquarium with a volume of at least 70 liters for them. Beginners can keep captive cichlids.

Keeping their aquarium water clean is very important. It is better to renew 15 to 20% of their aquarium water twice a week. And finally, they don't need much light.

Nutrition:

Captive cichlids are omnivorous and will eat a wide variety of foods including: ready-made cichlid foods, vegetable-based foods such as spirulina and lettuce, and protein foods such as beef heart and worms. Feeding 2 to 5 small pieces of food per day is better for them than a large meal. With this method, we maintain the water quality for a longer time. By adding vitamin and mineral supplements to their feed, we can improve the health of the fish.
