Melanochromis auratus

Oratos fish, known as "Malawi golden cichlid", is native to the southern regions of Lake Malawi in Tanzania. Malawi cichlids are small and long and can grow up to 11 cm in body length. Juveniles and females are bright yellow with white and black stripes on the back half of their body. The coloring of adult males is completely different and dark brown or black with light blue or yellow stripes on the back half of the body.

Conditions for keeping in the aquarium:

The optimal temperature for keeping uratus is 22 to 26 degrees Celsius and pH - 7.5 to 8.5. Oratos are aggressive, it is better to be kept with their African relatives such as macro, red zebra cichlid, giraffe cichlid, marmalade, etc. and their aquarium should have many hiding places, its width should be at least one meter. They swim in all water levels and mostly in intermediate levels; They like semi-hard to hard water. Rock decor with the most holes and shelters reduces the risk of encountering aquarium inhabitants.

Nutrition:

Oratos are omnivorous and accept all kinds of protein, living and plant food. Since they also feed on algae from the reefs of their natural habitat, it is better to have a fiber and plant part in their diet.
