Neritina zebra

The shell of Nerite's zebra snails (Neritina zebra species) has a really striking and beautiful pattern of gold and black zebra-like stripes. Snails of the Nerite family have useful purposes. They clean algae from aquarium glass, plants, and decorations, eat hair algae, and keep the aquarium sand bed clean and in its natural color.

Nerite zebra snails are one of the best snails for algae control, they are completely safe to keep with any kind of fish, shrimp or plant; Because they are very peaceful. They need salt water to reproduce; Therefore, unlike some freshwater snails, they do not multiply and do not occupy the aquarium with a large population.

Nerite zebra snails are about 1 to 1/2 inch (2.54 to 3 cm) in diameter. They do not eat plants and only feed on algae; Hence, they are very suitable for plant aquariums.

Conditions for keeping in the aquarium:

In keeping any type of Nerite snail, you should make sure that the water level of your aquarium is not too high; Because these snails tend to rise above the water line.
Nerite snails do not tolerate high amounts of nitrates.
All freshwater snails are very sensitive to copper; Therefore, if you fill your aquarium water from the faucet, be careful about the amount of copper in the aquarium water.

Suitable aquarium water parameters for Nerite zebra snails are:

Temperature: 18-29°C

Acidity ﴿pH﴾: 5.6-8

Carbonate hardness: 5-12 KH

Minimum water volume required: 6.7 liters for each snail

Nutrition:

Nerite snails can feed on the same source if there is enough algae in the aquarium; But their diet can be enriched with algae wafers or mixed vegetables such as zucchini, cabbage, spinach or cucumber.

considerations:

Avoid introducing any food, medicine, or fertilizer that contains copper in any form into an aquarium containing snails. Copper is toxic to invertebrates. Many commercial fish foods, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizers contain copper or, more commonly, copper sulfate. To ensure that your aquarium is copper-free, always read the ingredient list of aquarium products.

social behavior:

It has a peaceful and solitary behavior and does not interfere with other inhabitants of the aquarium.
