Ammania gracilis

Red Amania plant (also known as Pink Amania or Big Amania) is a plant native to West Africa in swamps, streams and rivers. Unlike the strong stems, this plant has narrow and rather wavy leaves. Depending on the intensity of the light, the leaves turn from pale green to bronze-red.

Red amnesia grows from 12 to about 20 cm or longer. The flowers are inconspicuous and grow from the axils of the leaves. From a group of stems planted in the middle of the aquarium, a beautiful bush will soon develop.

Red Amania needs a lot of light for optimal growth. They can grow quickly in the right conditions. Amania also grows well with additional carbon dioxide added to the water. The ideal water conditions for this plant are mild and acidic in terms of water hardness; But these plants show good adaptation in most conditions. For good growth, they need adequate iron micronutrients.

Red Ammania plant (Ammania gracilis)

Light: the brightness should be from medium to high; Otherwise, the plant loses its lower leaves, its growth slows down, and the remaining leaves become pale and diseased.
Temperature: The water temperature should be between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius.
Fertility: CO2 injection is recommended. Iron supplementation and other micronutrients are needed to improve fertility. If red amnesia does not receive enough iron and light, the leaves will turn pale pink and green.
Pruning: should be done by cutting and replanting stronger upper stems.
Water circulation: gentle

Low nitrate enhances the red color of the plant.

Red Amania tends to grow in aquariums; Therefore, aquariums with a length of at least 60 cm should be used. Stems can reach 1 cm thick with leaves at least 10 cm long. Branches can be cut and replanted. If the base of the stem is cut off, the old base can produce new branches and leaves. If you want a bolder plant, cut the stem in half after it reaches the water level.

When propagating new plants, do not crowd them.
