Albumin

Albumin is mainly produced by the liver and constitutes 50-60% of total serum proteins. Due to its small size and abundance in plasma, albumin is the most important component of most extravascular body fluids such as CSF, interstitial fluid, urine and amniotic fluid. The main defect of albumin is in maintaining the balance of osmotic pressure in intravascular and extravascular spaces. By binding to a large number of compounds (ions, free fatty acids, bilirubin and drugs), albumin plays a role in their transport. Albumin is considered as a circulating storage of amino acids. An increase in aluminum levels is only important in acute dehydration, which is especially important in infants, and its decrease can be seen in various pathological conditions in many diseases, such as:

1) Acute and chronic inflammation

2) Reduction of albumin production in liver infections, malnutrition and analbuminemia

3) Increased excretion of albumin in nephrotic syndrome, excretion from the digestive system, extensive and severe burns, bedsores

4) Increased catabolism in fever and hyperthyroidism...
