Uric Acid

Uric acid is the main product of the catabolism of purines (adenosine, guanosine), which can be of internal or external origin (food). This conversion takes place mainly in the liver. Approximately 75% of uric acid is eliminated by the kidneys, the rest enters the intestine, where it is affected by the enzymes of intestinal bacteria. Uric acid does not have much solubility in water. An abnormal increase in the concentration of uric acid causes the formation of urate crystals in the urine. This change also occurs in plasma. In this case, the crystals are mainly deposited in the joints and cause a severe inflammatory response (gout) serum uric acid level due to increased synthesis of purine, metabolic disorders (Nyhan-Lesch syndrome), nutritional problems, increased over-turn of nucleic acid during the proliferation of cancer cells , leukemia, psoriasis, cytotoxic drugs, kidney disorders increase. A decrease in serum uric acid is not normal, but it may be seen for various reasons, including uric acid renal disorder (Fanconi syndrome) and Hodgkin's disease.
