Dipropylene glycol

Dipropylene glycol (DPG) is a derivative of propylene oxide (PO) and is produced in a two-step process. The first step is the reaction of PO with water, which results in a mixture of KEMPG and KEDPG.

In the second step, the reaction mixture of the previous step is distilled and purified to separate the components from each other.

General applications

Dipropylene glycol (DPG) is used as an intermediate reagent in the production of high performance unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethanes and plasticizers. KEDPG has high solvent power, low evaporation rate, low toxicity and high viscosity.

KEDPG often has a variety of applications as a chemical intermediate. Dipropylene glycol dibenzoate is a good emollient obtained by esterification of dipropylene glycol and acid.

As a reactant in unsaturated polyester resins, dipropylene glycol causes flexibility and stability against hydrolysis in the final resin and reduces the viscosity of the raw resin. In DCPD modified unsaturated polyester resins, KEDPG will help increase the flexibility of the cured resin and reduce its brittleness. In polyurethane products, KEDPG is used as an initiator for the synthesis of urethane polyols and as a polyol in rigid polyurethane foam systems.

The general properties of KEDPG are similar to other glycols. Of course, the greater solubility of this substance for certain substances, low evaporation rate, low toxicity and higher viscosity make KEDPG more suitable than other glycols. Some of the applications of KEDPG include:

Brake oil, oils used in the metalworking industry, textile lubricants, printing inks, coatings, industrial soaps, solvents and agricultural pesticide formulations.

The high solubility of KEDPG for castor oil makes this material suitable for use in oils used in the metalworking industry, textile lubricants and industrial soaps.

Cars/air equipment

KEDPG is also a suitable solvent for use in perfumes and cosmetics. The excellent solubility of this material in water, oils and hydrocarbons along with low odor, low potential for harming the skin, low toxicity and high quality have placed this material among the important raw materials in various industries.
