Cocopit (Sri Lanka)

Cocopit is a type of cultivation substrate that is prepared using the fibers of the skin and covering of the coconut fruit. Cocopeat is usually marketed in compressed form, and the final consumer prepares it for use by adding water to these compressed fibers. After adding water, every 1 kg of compressed cocopeat can be converted into 15 liters of wet cocopeat.

Benefits of using cocopeat

High water retention ability: cocopeat needs less irrigation (up to 65%) compared to peat moss. Cocopeat holds more water than peat moss.

The ability to rewet and the quick drainage characteristic of cocopeat reduces the loss of nutrients through leaching.

The pH of cocopeat is neutral to slightly acidic and therefore very suitable for plants.

Cocopeat is the most natural soil conditioner and prevents soil hardening and increases soil porosity.

Cocopit is resistant to bacterial, fungal and weed growth and is actually pathogen free.

The high amount of lignin in it encourages the development of favorable microorganisms.

Cocopit can be used as a soilless growing medium in hydroponics.

Cocopeat is completely organic. It has no adverse effect on the environment.

Cocopit can be reused and returned for up to 4 years.
