Freon gas is a brand name for a class of chemicals used as a refrigerant in air conditioning systems (known as chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs). Freon is a gas that is a gas at room temperature, but when it is cooled or compressed, it turns into a liquid, non-flammable, colorless and relatively odorless. Freon gases have an ether-like aroma.
Types of commercial freon gas are:
Tetrafluoroethane for cars
Chlorodifluoromethane for air conditioning
The National Air Conditioning Association in America recommends that the refrigerant in the air conditioning system should be checked every year, because a system that has only a 10% decrease in the cooling level can increase your cost by 20% on a monthly basis, as well as the continued operation of the system. An air conditioner with a low cooling level can eventually cause irreparable damage to your compressor.
