xenon gas

Xenon is present in very small amounts, one part in 20 million in the Earth's atmosphere. This element is commercially extracted from liquid air residues. This noble gas is found naturally in gases that come out of mineral springs. Xe-133 and Xe-135 are produced by neutron irradiation in air-cooled nuclear reactors.

Applications of xenon gas:
Xenon is used in lasers used in medical, industrial and research applications.

The main application of xenon is in the lighting industry. Sodium and mercury lamps used for lighting highways and roads are filled with xenon gas. Xenon is also used in the following cases:
- Incandescent lamps
- Car lights
- Arc lamp
Flash lights
- Cinema screen
Xenon is used along with oxygen in the CAT machine to scan the blood flow in the body.
Mixture of methane with xenon is used in iodine therapy devices in thyroid cancer patients.
Mixture of xenon with boron trifluoride is used for neutron, x-ray and y-ray counting.
Xenon is used in a wide variety of research applications.
Xenon is used for mass spectrometer calibration.
Xenon isotopes in the MRI machine perform the scan as tracer markers.
Xenon can be used as a general anesthetic.
In Europe and NASA, xenon is used as fuel in spacecraft with ion space engines.
