Compression chillers

In compression chillers, the gas is condensed by the compressor. This gas entering the condenser is cooled by water or air and turns into a liquid. This liquid enters the cooler (evaporator) at a lower pressure by passing through the expansion valve or capillary tube. This decrease in pressure causes the liquid to evaporate, and as a result, the refrigerant cools it by taking heat from the environment. Then the gas due to evaporation is transferred to the compressor
There are basically 4 types of compressors in compression chillers.
Reciprocating, scroll, screw and centrifuge. All of which are powered by electric motors or turbines. In recent years, with the growth of technology, the efficiency of compression chillers has increased significantly. The basis of the work of these chillers is based on the image of the Rankine cycle.
Compression chiller components
Refrigeration compressors, condensers, evaporators are important components of compression chillers.
The refrigerant gas compression mechanism is different in different compressors. Generally, compressors are reciprocating, scroll, screw, or centrifugal, all of which are operated by an electric motor or turbine. In recent years, with the growth of technology, the efficiency of compression chillers has increased significantly. The basis of the work of these chillers is based on the image of the Rankine cycle. Compressors can have an integrated motor from a specific manufacturer or the motor can be installed separately on the compressor.
Condenser of chillers can be air or water cooled. A condenser is a heat exchanger that allows heat to be transferred from a refrigerant to air or water. Air-cooled condensers consist of copper tubes (for refrigerant) and aluminum fins (for air passage). Condensers are made of different materials and with different prices. Among them, evaporative cooling condensers have high efficiency (4 or more).
Refrigerant metering device (RMD) restricts the flow of refrigerant, creates a pressure drop and causes the refrigerant to change from a hot liquid to a cold gas. The RMD is located immediately before the evaporator so that the cold gas can absorb the heat of the water inside the evaporator. There is a RMD direction sensor on the evaporator outlet that adjusts the refrigerant flow based on the chiller design. Evaporators can be plate or tube and shell. Evaporator is a type of exchanger that transfers heat from water to refrigerant gas
