One of the physical properties of natural gas is that this fuel product is odorless, and therefore it is necessary to make it smell by a mechanism before reaching the consumption system in order to prevent possible risks and accidents. This can be done by injecting an odorant into the natural gas stream. This process is called "scenting" or (odorizing) natural gas and is generally done by injecting a very fragrant substance called Mercaptane. In the gas industry, two methods are common for natural gas aromatization, and according to operational parameters and consumer needs, one of these two methods is chosen for the "aromatization" operation. These two methods are: perfuming the bypass system (Bypass) and perfuming the injection method (Injection). The functioning of the Bypass deodorizing system is without the need for any injection pump and only by using the hydraulic pressure applied from the pipeline, the mercaptan storage tank will be in equilibrium pressure with the passing gas flow. The gas passing through the pipeline will enter the mercaptan storage tank by entering a branch smaller than the size of the main line and will take some of the liquid with it. This gas, after mixing with mercaptan due to the pressure drop created by a butterfly valve in the line, will be able to return to the main pipeline and release mercaptan along with it in the entire flow. Using a level indicator, you can check the amount of mercaptan in the tank at any time. Filling the main tank of odorizer is done through a loading system and by applying a set pressure on the tanker containing mercaptan, and due to the toxic property of mercaptan, it will cause many complications in case of leakage in the natural environment, for this reason, the safety valve of this equipment is equipped to a charcoal filter to prevent such side effects.
