Compressible and anti-wear additives

One of the most important tasks of the lubricant is to reduce friction and prevent wear; For this reason, appropriate anti-wear and compressible additives should be used in their formulation according to the performance conditions. These materials prevent the corrosion of the underlying metal by forming a thin film on the metal. One of the most prominent anti-wear organic materials is zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP), which is widely used to reduce wear in hydraulic pumps, gears, transmissions, and engine oils. Also, when the condition of metal to metal becomes harder and pressure and temperature increases, the lubricating film is subjected to extreme pressure. In such a situation, the distance between the metal surfaces has practically disappeared to the point where wear has occurred, leading to welding and adhesion of the two surfaces. Such conditions can be seen in the differential gears of cars. In these cases, it is necessary to use compressible additives (EP). This group of compounds consists of a polar head and a non-polar tail, and the polar heads, by being placed on metal surfaces and forming a layer, prevent the surfaces from sticking in hard working conditions and high pressure. The most important components of these additives are phosphorus and sulfur.
