In the classification based on the viscosity of bitumens according to the value of absolute viscosity at 60°C or kinematic viscosity at 135°C, the classification and direction of each of them have been determined by specific technical criteria. Absolute viscosity is expressed in poise and kinematic viscosity is expressed in centistokes. Classification and specifications of pure bitumen are reported in AASHTO-M226 and ASTM-D3381 standards.
Table 2-1: Technical characteristics of pure bitumen according to viscosity at oC60 according to AASHTO-M226.
(1) If the stretch at 25°C is less than 100 cm, it is acceptable, provided that the stretch at 15.6°C with a stretching speed of 5 cm/min is at least 100 cm.
Table 3-1: Technical characteristics of pure bitumen according to viscosity at oC60 according to AASHTO-M226
(!) Ashto 240T (bitumen thin layer test) may be used, but Ashto 240T should be used as a comparative method.
(2) Tensile bitumen less than 100 will remain material. If the bitumen tension is at least 100 oC 6.15.
Table 4-1: Technical characteristics of pure bitumen according to viscosity at oC60 according to ASTM-D3381.
(1) If the stretch at 25°C is less than 100 cm, it is acceptable, provided that the stretch at 15.6°C with a stretching speed of 5 cm/min is at least 100 cm.
Table 5-1: Technical characteristics of pure bitumen according to viscosity at oC60 according to ASTM-D3381.
(1) If the stretch at 25°C is less than 100 cm, it is acceptable, provided that the stretch at 15.6°C with a stretching speed of 5 cm/min is at least 100 cm.
Table 6-1: Technical characteristics of pure bitumen according to viscosity at oC60 according to ASTM-D3381
(1) A thin layer of bitumen may be used in the test. But the bitumen thin layer test should be used as a comparative method.
(2) If the tension at 25 °C is less than 100 cm, it is acceptable. provided that the stretching at 15.6 °C with a stretching speed of 5 cm/min is at least 100 cm.
