Soluble bitumen

Soluble bitumens are obtained by dissolving pure bitumen in solvents or petroleum oils. The type and quality of soluble bitumen depends on the quality of the original pure bitumen, the type and amount of solvent. The higher the amount of petroleum solvents in the bitumen, the more fluid it is. . The lack of access to bitumen heating devices, bitumen decomposition at high temperatures, bitumen cooling during work, the impossibility of its penetration into porous minerals, the need for workers' safety, fire and time-consuming causes, which in some cases of soluble bitumen to be used. Soluble bitumen is used in road construction for surface coatings, infiltration, surface asphalt, factory cold asphalt or mix on site. Retardant bitumen (MC) is prepared by dissolving pure bitumen in kerosene, where the extension number represents the viscosity of the bitumen in centistokes. Soluble bitumens are classified according to the degree of viscosity and are divided into the following three groups according to the speed of setting and the type of solvent.

Quick-setting bitumen (RC): if gasoline is used to dissolve pure bitumen, the soluble bitumen is called quick-setting bitumen. Because the solvent in the bitumen evaporates in a short time after consuming the soluble bitumen and the original bitumen remains.
Retardant Bitumen (MC): Retardant bitumen is made by dissolving pure bitumen in kerosene, which has a slower and longer evaporation rate than gasoline.
Delayed bitumen (SC): In addition to dissolving pure bitumen in long-acting petroleum oils and solvents, such as diesel or kerosene, like pure bitumen, soluble delayed bitumen can be obtained directly from the distillation of crude oil, which in the latter case is still solvent oil. It is not separated from it. It takes a long time for these bitumens to fully set after use.
