When Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's fourth airship burned down in 1908, a wave of solidarity with the visionary pioneer swept through the country. Thanks to spontaneous donations, he was able to found Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH on September 8th, 1908 and continue his work. The Count brought the GmbH and other donations to the Zeppelin Foundation in the same year. The aim was to “support efforts to promote airship travel and use it for science.” The count's visionary creativity allowed the company to grow and prosper successfully. At times, up to 40 companies were involved in the production of airships and airplanes or their components as well as sales. The break-up of the group by the Allies after the Second World War required a complete restructuring. The Zeppelin Foundation went to the city of Friedrichshafen, and Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH still operates today as a pure asset management and investment company. Always with the aim of dealing responsibly with the values of Count Zeppelin.
Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH holds the widely ramified companies of the Zeppelin Group together through its holdings (see organizational chart). In addition, we have various properties and properties (approx. 350,000 m²). The sales revenues in 2020 amount to approx. 7.7 million euros. The balance sheet total is around EUR 188 million.
