There is a long tradition of progress
INDEX-Werke was founded in 1914 by Hermann Hahn, who started producing automatic turret lathes that year. He was a full-blooded Swabian entrepreneur who laid the foundation for an impressive development with creative ideas and the pursuit of quality. Within four decades, more than 20,000 automatic lathes have been sold, on which INDEX's excellent reputation worldwide is based. INDEX began to produce multi-spindle automatic lathes in 1975. A few years later, the company entered CNC technology. INDEX quickly took on a pioneering role here. After the death of Eugen Hahn, the son of the company founder, 85% of the company's shares were transferred to a foundation. In 1992 INDEX presented a new generation of turning-milling centers based on a modular system. In 1997 TRAUB lathe GmbH & Co.
