Old Wengert

Our Alter Wengert is a cheese made from fresh Demeter whole hay milk with a natural fat content for around eight months (partially mite-ripened). In our brick-vaulted cellars, it is treated regularly and with particular care with salt water and wine yeast, so that a dark reddish, partly rustic natural rind with natural cheese mites develops. The cheese mites give the Old Wengert a savory aroma as it ages, and its cheese paste is golden and supple.
Matching the Alter Wengert: full-bodied and dense red wines from the barrique - simply wonderful - a top product for cheese lovers!
The Alter Wengert was awarded the Audience Prize 2019/2020 by the Association for Artisan Milk Processing.
