The Dukes of Wurtemberg ORGANIC

The "Duc de Wurtemberg" is a small semi-cooked cheese made from raw cow's milk. It is produced in the "Fruitière de Montbéliard" cheese factory in the Jura Mountains, in the Doubs department in France.

Why was he called "Duc de Wurtemberg"? To understand this, you have to go back to the 17th century. During this time, the Mennonite Swiss cattle breeders were expelled from Switzerland by the Catholics and later taken in by the Protestant Duke of Württemberg with their herds of cows (Bernese breed) in the Montbéliard region. Their know-how and production potential in terms of agriculture and cattle breeding were quickly recognized by the Duke of Württemberg, who then confiscated land for Swiss cattle breeders. So they settled in Montbéliard and the surrounding area, specifically on Joseph Graber's farm, where the current cheese factory is still located.
