Application of RT.PVP K90 in cosmetics industry

PVP macromolecules cannot pass through most of the body's membranes such as the skin, and therefore, in addition to their excellent biocompatibility, they are not absorbed by the skin. PVP has been widely used in the cosmetics industry due to its non-sensitivity and unpleasant feeling to the skin. PVP is sometimes used in this industry under the brand name Luviskol as a binder, emulsion stabilizer, suspension suspender, hair condition stabilizer and film maker. Only 50 years after the introduction of this polymer and in 1996, the use of PVP in the formula of 395 cosmetic products was reported to the US Food and Drug Administration.
This trend continues to increase, with 799 registered formulations in the industry containing PVP in 2013. Since the long-term use of products containing PVP does not harm the hair, all the basic formulations of hair gels contain PVP K90. The styling power of hair gels depends on the grade and the amount of PVP used. Normally 3-10% PVP is used in all types of hair gel. By using hair lotions containing 20-25% PVP, since after use, a thin film of PVP remains on the hair, if the hair is slightly moistened with water after a while, without the need to reapply the lotion, the hair It forms easily. By forming a film in liquid cosmetic products such as mascara and eyeliner, PVP keeps the formulation components stable on the skin. Also, the use of PVP in the lipstick formula helps to form a better film and prevent any allergic reaction. PVP with a concentration of 0.5-1% is used as a binder in lipsticks containing high amounts of colored substances. In order to adjust the viscosity and increase the concentration of shampoos, PVP can be used instead of carboxymethyl cellulose and its other derivatives.
PVP is well distributed in emulsions and suspensions and prevents phase separation during long storage. On the other hand, due to its hydrophilic property, it is easily washed from the surface of the skin, hair and clothes.
